Yes, AI Built That Site In Thirty Seconds. Now Look At It.

Share

Durable’s ad says you can build a website in thirty seconds with AI. GoDaddy, Hostinger, Wix, and half a dozen others say some version of the same thing. That is not a lie. An AI tool can put a working page on the internet in under a minute. What it does not do is finish the job, and that gap is worth being honest about.

The Thirty Seconds Is Real

A generic layout, placeholder text in your industry’s general shape, a color scheme pulled from your logo. All of that really does happen fast. If the bar is “does something exist at a URL,” thirty seconds clears it.

What The First Draft Is Missing

Real copy written for your business, not generic filler describing your industry in general terms. Real photos, not stock images every other business within five miles is also using. A structure that makes sense to an actual customer, not just a template shape. Schema markup so search engines understand what your business actually does. Accessibility, so the site works for every visitor, not only the ones the tool assumed. Speed that holds up once real content, real images, and real traffic hit it, not the empty demo version.

Why The Gap Exists

AI tools are not reasoning about your business. They are following instructions, and the result is only as good as the instructions and the knowledge behind them. Tell one the wrong thing, or leave out something you did not know mattered, and it will confidently build the wrong thing. That is true of every AI tool on the market, not a criticism of any one of them. It is what they are.

I have spent real time this past year moving parts of my own workflow onto newer AI-based tools, specifically because they let someone who already knows the work move through it faster, and faster work is part of how I keep my prices where they are. It was not a switch I flipped. Building tools that actually hold up took the better part of six months of research, testing, and correction, with three decades of web development experience directing every step of it. If it takes that long to get right with real experience behind the wheel, thirty seconds with none behind it is not a finished website. It is a first draft nobody has looked at yet.

When The Thirty-Second Version Is Actually Fine

If you are testing an idea, need a placeholder before a real launch, or genuinely do not care what the site looks like, an AI builder is a reasonable choice, and I will tell a client that directly if it is true for them. What it is not is a finished website, and the businesses that treat it like one are usually the ones I hear from six months later.
