I host WordPress sites for businesses around the Treasure Valley, from $24.99 a month. This is the page that says what that actually includes, what the limits are, and what it costs to leave, because most hosting pages tell you the price and then make you find out the rest later.
First, the honest part about “local”
Your server is not in Boise, and it should not be. Hosting runs in real data centers with real redundancy, and nobody serious is running your storefront off a box in a Meridian office park. So when a web company sells you “local hosting”, the servers are not the local part.
Here is what local honestly buys you. You get someone in your own time zone, so a problem at 9am is a problem I am already awake for. You get a person who answers the phone rather than a ticket number and a support tier. And you get someone who knows what a Nampa contractor’s season looks like, or why a McCall business gets a traffic spike in July, because I work with these businesses and not with an account list spread across four continents.
That is a real difference and it is worth paying for. It is just not a technical one, and I would rather say so than dress it up.
What managed actually means here
Managed means the hosting account is mine and the work on it is mine. I keep the server patched, I keep SSL current, the site is backed up daily, and uptime monitoring alerts me rather than you. If something goes down at 2am, I am the one who finds out at 2am.
The trade is worth stating plainly, because it is the one thing managed hosting changes: the hosting account is in my name, not yours. That is exactly what lets me patch and monitor without asking you for a login every time. Everything else stays yours. Your domain is registered to you on either path. The files, the content, the database and the code I wrote are yours from final payment, and where the site is hosted does not touch that. I own the hosting account. I do not own your website.
Two plans, and the numbers are on the page
Standard is $24.99 a month. Most of the sites I build live here: a brochure or local business site, services and gallery and contact form and a blog, steady local traffic rather than campaign spikes. It is priced and reviewed on 5 GB of storage and 25,000 visits a month.
Performance is $49.99 a month, for a site doing more work than that: a store, a booking site, a busy blog, heavier pages and more images, traffic that arrives in waves. It is priced and reviewed on 10 GB and 50,000 visits.
Those figures are the basis the plan is priced and reviewed on, not a switch that flips. Nothing is capped, throttled or cut off when you pass one. I read usage monthly, and if a site is consistently over for two months running I send you the numbers I am seeing and what I suggest. Two months rather than one, so a press mention or a busy season does not push you onto a bigger plan you do not need. Any change starts the following billing cycle and nothing gets charged without you saying yes.
There is no third tier and I am not going to invent one. Past Performance you are better off on a dedicated plan or a cloud account in your own name, and that is what I will tell you.
Hosting is not a care plan
These get bundled together constantly, usually into one monthly number you cannot take apart. Hosting keeps your site online. Care keeps it looked after. They are separate products at separate prices and you can have either, both or neither. Hosting is the server, your allowance, server-level patching and SSL, daily backups and uptime monitoring. Care, at $149.99 a month, is the work done on the site itself: WordPress and plugin updates, security, fixes, and edits to what is already there.
One thing worth knowing before anyone sells you both: backups belong to whoever holds the hosting account, so you never pay for them twice. If I host your site, backups come with the hosting and the care plan is not what pays for them. A daily copy, kept 30 days, for as long as your site is on my hosting. If the hosting account is yours instead, backups become a care-plan item, because then I am reaching into an account I do not control to make sure the copies exist and actually restore. I have written the full comparison up separately in hosting or a care plan: what each one actually covers.
What leaving costs
Ask this before you sign up anywhere, not after. Billing stops at the end of the month you have already paid for, and the site stays up for 30 more days after that so you are not moving under a deadline. A complete export of your files and database is free, always, and it is not conditional on anything. If you want me to move the site onto your new host and set it up properly, that is a flat $199. There is no exit fee, and there is nothing you have to ask nicely for.
The whole sequence is written out in what leaving looks like.
If you would rather hold the account yourself
Some owners want the hosting account in their own name, and that is a legitimate choice rather than a worse one. From $250 as a one-time setup I will stand up hosting, domain, DNS, business email and SSL on accounts you hold, document it, hand you every key, and support it from there. You pay the host directly at their price, and I do not mark up your host or your domain. Renewals, plan limits and host billing stay with you, which is the actual trade.
I earn something on either path, so I have no reason to steer you toward one, and on this path it is worth saying exactly what that is. I recommend SiteGround and I use my referral link, so they pay me a fee for the signup. It does not change what you pay them, it is not why I recommend them, and if you would rather not use it, ask and I will send you a plain link. If I host the site instead, there is no referral and no commission involved at all. Both paths are laid out on the hosting page, and everything else I charge for is on the services page.
Who I do this for
Mostly small businesses across the Treasure Valley and the rest of southern Idaho, and I have a page for each town covering what web work looks like there: Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Kuna, Eagle, Star, Mountain Home, Twin Falls, Pocatello, McCall and Lewiston.
You do not have to have had me build the site. If it is already built and running somewhere else, moving it onto my hosting is quoted as a migration, from $600, and I will tell you honestly if your current host is fine and you would be paying me for nothing. A migration you do not need is not a service, it is a sale.
