Schema Markup Audit for Idaho Businesses: The Fields That Drive Local Rankings

Schema markup audit for Idaho businesses: the priorities, the Idaho-specific fields that matter, and the common mistakes that leave you invisible in rich results.

Share

Schema markup is the highest-leverage SEO fix most Idaho businesses have never touched. A typical Idaho restaurant, professional service, or trade contractor with no schema sits invisible in knowledge panels, voice search, AI summaries, and the rich results that drive click-through rates. Adding proper schema is often a single afternoon of work that produces visible ranking lift within weeks. Here’s the schema audit I run on every Idaho business site.

What Google actually sees

Use Google’s Rich Results Test on five page templates: homepage, service page, blog post, contact page, and one product or location page if applicable. The tool shows you exactly what schema Google parsed from each. Most Idaho sites fail this audit in one of three ways: no schema at all, broken schema with validation errors, or duplicated schema from multiple competing plugins.

The schema priorities for an Idaho business

  • LocalBusiness: required for any Idaho business with a service area. Full address, geo coordinates, phone, hours, payment methods accepted.
  • Organization: sitewide identity, founder, logo, social profiles, contact points.
  • Service: one entry per service you offer, with pricing where appropriate.
  • FAQPage: for any page with real Q&A. Earns FAQ-rich snippets in search.
  • BreadcrumbList: every non-home page. Drives breadcrumb display.
  • Article / BlogPosting: every blog post. Author, dates, headline.
  • AggregateRating / Review: anywhere you display real reviews.
  • Product: for every WooCommerce product, with offer pricing.

Idaho-specific schema fields that matter

For Treasure Valley businesses, the LocalBusiness areaServed field should list every city you genuinely cover, not a 50-mile radius blob. Multiple city names as separate entries reinforce geographic relevance. Geo coordinates pulled from your actual office or service-area centroid. openingHoursSpecification with real hours including any seasonal variations.

For service-area businesses without a public office (trades, mobile services), use areaServed with multiple cities and omit the visible address, but keep the schema address as your registered business address. Google penalizes fake addresses on GBP but doesn’t penalize accurate schema that lists your real registered location.

The most common Idaho schema mistakes

  • Yoast active alongside another schema plugin: duplicated nodes
  • Theme outputting hardcoded schema that conflicts with Yoast
  • LocalBusiness schema without geo coordinates (Google heavily weights these)
  • Generic Organization schema on a site that should use LocalBusiness
  • Service pages with no Service schema
  • FAQs displayed visually but never marked up as FAQPage
  • Review snippets displayed on-page but no AggregateRating schema

The fix workflow

Pick one schema plugin: Yoast or Rank Math, not both. Configure your business info fully in its settings. Run the Rich Results Test on every page template. For anything the plugin doesn’t output (Service schema with pricing, FAQPage on specific pages, AggregateRating with real review data), add JSON-LD by hand in your theme or via the plugin’s custom schema features.
