Web design pricing in Idaho varies wildly depending on who you ask. A Fiverr freelancer might quote $500. A national agency might quote $25,000 for the same scope. A Boise agency might land somewhere in between. None of those numbers tells you what a website should actually cost for your business. Here’s an honest breakdown of what Idaho small business web design genuinely costs in 2026 and what each price tier actually delivers.
The $500-$1,500 tier
What you get: a Wix, Squarespace, or template-based WordPress site assembled by someone who is not a developer. Functional, looks like every other small business site in the same template family, hits a feature ceiling quickly. Performance is mediocre. SEO is mediocre. Customization beyond the template’s intent is impossible without a rebuild.
Right for: brand-new businesses validating an idea before investing in real infrastructure, or businesses where the website is purely a digital business card with no marketing or sales role.
The $1,500-$3,500 tier
What you get: a custom-designed WordPress site, custom-coded or built carefully on a quality theme, by a developer with actual experience. Real local SEO and schema markup, mobile-first design, decent page speed, room to grow.
Right for: most Idaho small businesses. This is the sweet spot where you get a real website that performs, ranks, and converts, without paying for agency overhead you don’t need. My pricing lives here.
The $3,500-$8,000 tier
What you get: a fully custom custom-coded site with substantial unique functionality, integrations with third-party systems (CRM, booking, scheduling), e-commerce, or multi-language support. From a solo developer or boutique agency, this is real value. From a larger agency, this is often the low end of their quote range for the same scope.
Right for: established Idaho businesses with specific functional requirements that templates can’t cover. WooCommerce stores, membership sites, booking-driven service businesses.
The $8,000-$25,000 tier
What you get: an agency quote for the same scope a solo developer delivers for $3,500-$8,000. Plus the agency stack: account managers, project managers, formal change-request processes, coordinated copywriting and photography. Whether this overhead is worth the markup depends entirely on whether you actually need those services or just feel safer paying more.
Right for: businesses with formal procurement that require working with an LLC, or projects coordinating multiple disciplines simultaneously. My full breakdown on agency pricing covers when this tier is worth it.
The $25,000+ tier
What you get: enterprise-grade engagement with custom application development, multiple integrations, ongoing retainer relationships, formal SLAs. For most Idaho small and mid-sized businesses, this is overkill. For larger Idaho companies, manufacturers, financial services, or healthcare systems, it can be appropriate.
The honest test
Whichever tier you’re considering, ask three questions of the candidate: What page builders or themes do you use? (Custom-coded is senior; Elementor or Divi is template work.) Who owns the code and the domain, and who holds the hosting account? (The code and the domain should be yours, always. The hosting account can be theirs, as long as they say so in writing and you can leave with a free export and no exit fee.) Can you show me a custom WordPress plugin or theme you wrote? (Yes means developer; no means template operator.)
Most quotes you’ll get in Idaho fail at least one of those tests. The ones that pass all three are worth talking to seriously.

If you are comparing against an agency bid, why Treasure Valley agencies cost two to three times more breaks down what is actually inside that number, and the Boise web design page covers that market specifically.
